Description
ROLE
As a Registered Nurse working within MAHC’s Surgical Services team you will work collaboratively within the Surgical Service department in all areas, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Day Surgery and PACU.
- Assesses and prepares patients preoperatively for surgery and endoscopy procedures. Ensures all pre op orders are complete.
- Assess and recovers all post op and endoscopy patients. Works collaboratively with the surgeon and anesthetist to ensure all patients meet the discharge requirements and are safely discharged home.
- Ensures all patients receive post operative education and instructions.
- Scrubs and Circulates for all OR procedures.
- Works collaboratively with the surgical team to make sure all equipment is ready, available and in good working order.
- Ensures that sterility is maintained in the operating room at all times by adhering to the ORNAC standards.
- Assists the anesthetist with induction and extubation of all patients.
- Prepares the endoscopy suite for the day, making sure all equipment is ready and available.
- Assists surgeon during endoscopy procedure with duties including, but not limited to administering medications under the direction of the surgeon, monitoring the patient, assisting with biopsies, polypectomies, dilatations etc.
- Preforms bedside pre clean on endoscopes and transports the patient back to day surgery.
- Assists the surgeons with minor clinic procedures.
- Will provide one on one preceptorship to nurses learning new skills and orients new staff to the Surgical Services Department.
- Participates in On Call Schedule, weekday evening/nights and weekends

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTICIATION(S)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited university.
- Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support).
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
- Current IV Certification
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Perioperative Nurse Post Graduate Certificate
- Post Anesthesia Care Certificate
- Current Fire Safety Training
- Current WHMIS Training
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum one year (1500 hours) experience Medical/Surgical nursing experience
DESIRED SKILLS/EDUCATION
- CNA Perioperative Certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement.
